Glitch AI: Exploring new digital consciousness
The emergence of large-language models and image generation has created a new area for glitch artists to explore. Once these technologies became available I started exploring them to find ways to purposefully produce distorted or glitched results. Early versions of these systems produced strange results; people with the improper number of hands/fingers and appendages extruding from wrong places. However, it is worthwhile to produce purposeful distortions that are predictable. In this talk we will explore popular AI image generators and how to produce glitchy effects and distortions.
Thomas Richards
A self taught emerging artist living in Rochester, N.Y. His journey started in digital photography when he purchased his first DSLR camera before going on a Hawaiian vacation. With this camera he started exploring black and white photography along with concert photography. Using the photographs, Thomas started exploring the world of Glitch Art by creating digital distortions on the images. From there he dove further into the world of glitching by acquiring circuit bent analog video gear for creating analog distortions. He also incorporates generative technologies to create complex compositions that further push the boundaries of technology, world perception and human expression.
