tonota & varboska [HR] – Interference
A conversation is interactive communication between two or more people through which they exchange their thoughts, ideas and news. However, sometimes due to various factors, the people participating in the conversation do not receive the messages directed toward them.
Through this composition, I want to portray what a conversation sounds like when the two parties do not understand each other when that conversation is full of holes, interrupted thoughts and glitches in the processing of information. I also want to show how mistakes in speech can be very musical and rhythmic.
Ivona Eterović (tonota)
A music producer, sound designer and psychologist from Zagreb, Croatia. She is a member of the managing board of the collaboration platform of NGOs, art organizations, informal groups and individuals in Zagreb, Alliance Operation City. In 2020 she graduated at the top of her class in the study programme Electronic music producer from UNITED POP Academy in Zagreb. Ivona’s artistic career has been marked by individual and collaborative work, focused mainly on creating specific and fresh sound with an introspective element and a multidimensional emotional charge. As a music producer and performer, she combines the elements of ambient and bass music with sounds acquired through field recording and digital sound design. In her work, Ivona does not restrain herself to one particular genre, rather tries to find inspiration in both ambient and experimental club music, hip hop, pop, as well as contemporary art and background music for films and theater. Currently, she is enrolled in OneBeat, a virtual residency for which she was chosen among 35 other artists from all over the globe. Also, she is working on sound and music for two animated shorts.

Kristian Bagarić is a physics and computer science teacher and a self-taught music producer. As verboska he creates experimental electro-acoustic music overflowing with autobiographical metonymy and hypnagogic as well as ritual motifs. He performs live at the Nova scena (Pločnik), within the first ZEZ festival livestream, at the VOLTA events as a solo DJ and a live act and as a duo improv act with the producer tonota. They are also forming (a currently unnamed) producer improv/live duo which has performed at the Ljubljana Grounded festival and a multichannel A/V project “Interference” in collaboration with Filip Pacak. He also performs as a solo live improv/mix within the SUTRA collective with the Currents.fm COMMON MULTIVERSE INITIATIVE online festival. His releases have been a part of the SN4F compilation by the Ljubljana-based SNIF RECS label collecting Balkan-based producers as well as the Future Unknown compilation by the US-based Vivarium Recordings. He released two self-produced EPs carrying an original single and remixes of close friends’ and collaborators’ work (tonota, takt juga, late dinner, banora).
