Sustainability and Autonomy of Digital Art

This panel is a collaboration between the MFRU and /’fu:bar/ festivals, thematically complementing their frameworks of electronic media archiving and the practices and value of DIY – Do it yourself, but for others. By posing questions of digital art sustainability and autonomy, the panel guests will present their art practices and tackle issues of digital archiving, obsolescence of technology as well as failed attempts of its perseverance.

Moderator:

Irena Borić is an art historian who works as an independent curator, critic, and editor in the national and international environment. For many years, she has been collaborating with the Format C arts organisation Zagreb. She is one of the editors at INCA press and a member of the Croatian section of AICA. She lives and works in Maribor.

Panelists:

Bee Nix (aka Suture Blue) is an art-based researcher and curator who weaves between animations, game art, glitch art, and interactive performances– exploring the existential insecurity experienced within the increasingly fragmenting environments of societies reliant on technology. Currently they reside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Born and raised in the UK Midlands, Ian Keaveny works under the name crash-stop in rural Ireland. His work is based around the ideas of remix culture introduced by Lawrence Lessig and the reuse of old hardware and software, trying to use only that which is open source, publishing his work under creative commons licence. He has participated in national and international glitch art exhibitions online and sometimes irl and is an associate member of Format C arts organisation Zagreb.

MA Isidora Todorović is an Associate Professor at the Academy of Arts of Novi Sad as well as the Department Chair of New media at where she teaches Digital art. Isidora has experiences in artistic organization, curatorship, art production as well as an educator. Isidora Todorović has participated in international and local festivals as an artist and lecturer and is the author of several theoretical texts.

Nejc Trampuž (SI, 1993) is a multimedia artist who graduated cum laude and received an award for his master’s degree in photography from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana. Over the past five years, he has been actively involved in environmental and ecological projects, and since 2019, he has also been an activist in the Youth for Climate Justice movement. His favourite form of expression is art collage combined with various contemporary technologies, media, and approaches. Trampuž has held dozens of solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia as well as abroad and has received multiple awards for his work.
