GAC, Clockwork Voltage, NAE Collective – Collaborative Aspects of Digital Technologies w/ Irena Borić
This panel presents various artistic positions that embrace collaborative strategies, shared approaches, and communal potential of emerging technologies. Working in a collective provides some kind of alternative to the dominant artistic and social paradigms. How collaborative ties create symbolic, intellectual and political space in which solidarity and diversity of opinion comes about? How can artists banding together contribute to better working conditions and expanding one’s own intellectual and technological horizons? How can new technologies be incorporated in common experience and action?
Participants: Thomas Collet (FR/BE; Glitch Artists Collective), Matija Dolenc (SI; Clockwork Voltage), Tomislav Oliver and Goran Nježić (HR; NAE Collective)
Moderator: Irena Borić

Chepertom, also known as Thomas Collet, is a French artist born in 1995 and living in Brussels. He graduated in drawing from the École de la Cambre in Brussels in 2020, where he went on to teach digital art. Leaving printmaking behind, he turned to video, programming and glitch art, working from digital archives, satellite imagery and Google Earth captures, with a lasting fascination for industrial and logistical landscapes, ports, factories and cargo ships, where the sublime meets a sense of dread. Since 2023 his practice has extended into generative textile. An algorithm written in Processing translates the logic of the glitch into weaving structures, produced on a TC2 digital Jacquard loom. In the RUG series, the errors of the digital image become woven matter, thread by thread. The lineage runs from the punched card of 1804, ancestor of binary computing, to today’s file. His work has been shown at Kanal Centre Pompidou in Brussels, Structura in Sofia, Larsen Warner in Stockholm and Superchief Gallery in Los Angeles, and is held in public and private collections.

Primarily a guitarist and guitar teacher, lowlander (Matija Dolenc) is a techno producer and live performer exploring the more curious side of techno. Known for his heavy beats and inventive sound design, he uses his ever-growing modular synthesizer setup to create a perpetual sonic drive that leaves you restless and ready to dance. Many of his tracks have been released on prominent labels, including Italo Moderni (Adrian Marth) and Trauma Label (Robert Hoff). His music has been played by artists such as Dave the Drummer, Dax J, Richie Hawtin and Perc. Lowlander’s musical development is closely connected to Clockwork Voltage, a community of modular synthesizer enthusiasts with whom he regularly performs live at venues around Slovenia. He co-organises their annual festival and the Clockwork Voltage Goes Clubbing events at clubs in Ljubljana. He is also a promoter and technical crew manager at the Nindri Indri Festival in Murska Sobota. He was also a founding member of the notorious electro-punk band Ludovik Material.

Clockwork Voltage brings together Slovenia’s modular synthesizer community and a vibrant network of creators working across different fields of art. The name of the community is an anagram of the title of Stanley Kubrick’s film A Clockwork Orange. “Clock” is also one of the fundamental elements of modular synthesis, driving changes in output voltages and synchronising different components of a system. The community’s primary purpose is to promote live performances. It addresses a gap in the local scene by creating opportunities for live modular performances, which require considerable experience and technical knowledge to execute successfully. Clockwork Voltage also organises an annual festival at a variety of venues, featuring international guests, as well as club events where community members perform live beat- and techno-oriented music. The breadth of the community is reflected in two compilation albums, Happy Little Voltages Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Created to promote local production, the compilations feature several Slovenian musicians and offer an extensive insight into the community’s current modular synthesizer output, showcasing a wide spectrum of musical approaches and forms of expression.
