- 112 – universal emergency phone line in the EU – more info here
- hopefully you never need it, but it’s highly recommended to travel with an EHIC as it significantly reduces your complication + cost in case of a medical emergency
- a mental health hotline is available here
🚃 travel
- Croatia is in the Schengen area of the EU (but we still get halted for random border checkups); please check if you need a VISA for your travel even if just passing by; our VISA office link is here; their main phone number is +38514569964

- not all taxis have regulated prices; always try to order a ride via a popular app, and/or check they have a running taximeter and/or look for the price beforehand; anything over ~10€ for a short mid-town ride is a rip-off

- croatian tap water is okay to drink, unless marked as ~”nije za piće” (not for drinking)

🌄 nature
- Zagreb has an amazing mountain – Medvednica 💚 you can get there by trolley, bus (route) or by foot (when on the “Sljeme” top try the tower view and local food in Runolist, Grafičar, PD Risnjak /NOT to be confused with National Park Risnjak/, etc.)
- we have a few artificial lakes; Jarun and Bundek being the most notable; not sure how pleasant they are to swim in but they should be up to code and at least make a nice walk
- regional rivers and river beaches; the easiest access being the Foginovo kupalište in Karlovac (pro-tip for taking a train: buying a ticket in the train is the most expensive and always leave a buffer to be late as our trains are often delayed for no apparent reason)
- ! don’t swim in random rivers or lakes; if it’s not an organized public beach it might be very dangerous to try to swim in !
- ! never wander off-road and off-path in random secluded mountain or coastline areas as some of them might have leftover mines from the 90s war – if you want to do an off-grid tour first check if the area is safe !
🎈 clubbing
- Zagreb has lots of clubs and events; some listed here
- most clubs should be fine but not all are LGBTIQ+ inclusive; please refer here for a list of friendly spots, here for additional info on potentially unsafe clubs and this article for in-depth details on our general clubbing inclusivity
- hopefully you never need this but you can report a hate crime via this form managed by a consortium of european NGOs, after of course securing your safety and informing the authorities at 112
